is a 50lb draw weight set at about 27" too little to kill a deer? Nope, it should kill one just fine. I hunt with 53# and a 28" draw. I killed 3 does and a 170# dressed buck last season with that set-up. Total Arrow Weight: 312 Bow IBO Speed: 348 Adjustment for Draw Length: -20 Adjustment for Draw Weight: -34 Adjustment for Arrow Weight: 13 Adjustment for Weight on String: -4 Calculated Speed: 303 fps Kinetic Energy: 63.62 I shot my bow a few times through a chronograph, and it was indeed 303 FPS. Studies usually quote a minimum of 40# kinetic energy to kill a deer with an arrow. You should be way over that. Plug your specs into the following calculator: http://www.bucklemke.com/ke/ke.php I used to shoot 70# and a 29" draw, and have more kinetic energy now with a 1" shorter draw and 17 less pounds due to advances in bows' efficiencies. Modern designs are very efficient compared to yesterday's bows. I figure why exert more drawing force in a treestand than necessary? |

Have Confidence..
I shoot 47lb Black Widow recurve.. 28" wood arrows.. 2 blade Zwickey Delta BH.. That set-up has been deadly to 14 Big Game animals, including my best elk ever. Just Get Closer.. Which is the whole point of using a primitive weapon anyway.. Right? Get Close Enough to make put that broadhead into the heart/lungs. |

I was talking about my local bow guy about this becuase I was worried about the GF not being able to pull enough bow to hunt with it. His wife who is probably all of 5 feet tall hunts with a 40lb draw weight and sends arrows through and through moose just about every year....
put it where it needs to go and dont worry about it. |
