I am scouting out a new new area for whitetail hunting. I see quite a bit of droppings and was wondering if there was a way to tell how long the droppings have been there.

And before anyone says it I know if it is warm it has not been there too long

A lot of dropping means a food source close by or right there, hunt the funnel to the source.

Are they still moist or hard ?

Taste them, if they are bitter they have not been there long and are not ripe yet.  When deer droppings are fully ripened (about a 2 week process) they taste quite sweet not unlike Blackberries.

I was going to post about weather, temperature where he is hunting , is their frost at night but I figure these are obvious answers he can make to the condition of the droppings.
