Has anyone used a decoy for deer hunting? If so, what were the results. BTW, do you think the kind you use for Xmas painted to simulate real deer would work? Let the jokes begin

I've never used one, but will be using one this year.  I have seen/read too many good results to not atleast give it a try.

I used one last year during rifle season.  Killed a 12-point buck that followed a scent trail right to it.  18 yards with my 44 mag pistol.  Have also used it successfully during bow and black powder.  I killed a coyote that stalked it with my BP rifle.  Boy he was suprised!

I owned & used the Flambeau Redi doe for several years. Lost an ear somewhere and some of its color seems to wear out, & was noisey and not to easy to manauver through the woods. Only attracted one doe in all the times I tried it and she got within about 10 ft. of it. I still have a silhoute of a doe which rolls up & is easy to carry but never had anything investigate it yet. Just my experience. Here is a link to the Flambeau decoys.  http://www.decoys.com/big_game/dcoy_big_game.html

I've had great success with them. Deer when they see them focus on the decoy & when the scent is down to the deer they have circled & come right in. Keeps them focused on the decoy & has allowed be to draw my bow without being seen!

+1

I have a place where one would probably work great, but I'm not so sure.  I would like to hear more people's input on them.

One piece of advice...

Please keep safety in mind if you decide to use one.  I would suggest putting an orange wrap or something on it when transporting it to and from your hunting location and I would only use one if hunting from an elevated location.  Too many idiots out and about in the deer woods anymore it seems.

My next door neighbor just bought this one this week:

It's so realistic, I might actually get excited and shoot it if I see it.

I too have decided to try the decoy thing.  I will be set up along a good wood line and need something to "pull em out" a little.
