Looks like a bottom loaded shorty. IMHO, it will be even less efficient than a Buddi-Stick.

I think it is loosely based on the MFJ telescoping antennas, which gained some popularity when the KX2 was first introduced.

Yep, it's going to be very inefficient, but hopefully a little better quality than the MFJ-1820T, and will add 17m.

A 50 ft wire and counterpoise is a far better option. That's what I have on my KX1

I suppose I'll catch a bit of flack, but I've had decent luck with the 20m MFJ and my 817.

I have at least 3 JT65 qso's transmitting into a dummy load vs my antenna.
