Can you tell me what event "R1451M" is celebrating?
I just worked him on 20m, and the only thing on his QRZ page appears to be a (Russian) certificate of some kind. Thanks. |

I have not worked that station but a quick search found a picture of the award they will be issuing.
Here is what is says: This award issued by MGO SSR for a radio marathon to commemorate 870th anniversary of Moscow, in remembrance of the one day siege of Moscow, on July 2 1451, by a Tatar horde lead by princeling Mazovshi. Quote from a historic reference: "The holy Robe of the Mother of God, which previously saved Constantinople, later saved Moscow from hostilities. Tatars of the horde of the princeling Mazovshi approached the walls of Moscow in the summer of 1451. Saint Jonah, Metropolitan of Moscow, encouraged the defenders of the capital with constant prayer and church services. On the night of July 2, the Chronicle relates, great confusion occurred within the Tatar camp. The enemy abandoned their plundered goods and speedily departed in disarray." He was on CW, and had to be pushing 40 wpm. He had just started calling CQ, so there weren't any spots on the net. I had to listen to it 6 or 7 times before I was sure I had his callsign right. And then, the few people who did put him on the spotting nets got his callsign wrong. I think having four numbers in the callsign (along with the speed) is what got so many people confused. |
