It's time for another SKCC weekend sprint.  It runs from  1200 UTC Feb. 11 to 0000 UTC Feb. 13.

Details here.

There's a RTTY contest on this weekend so 40 Meter activity will probably be in the old Novice segment around 7.120 MHz.

Cool.  Will be trying out the 1 Watt modified $7.00 Pixie :)  Hopefully some activity on my closest xtal frequency 7114.

(Yes, I know it's the worst of all possible RX architectures - should make the experience much like my first novice station...)

I made a run of 21 stations in an hour this morning on 7.113. Both 40 and 20 are pretty quiet now.

Re-creation of my 1954 Novice transmitter:

~4 watts out to a folded dipole.

I jumped on a couple of hours ago, but had my standard blob of noise sitting right on the 20m SKCC freq. Made a few contacts, but I gave up fairly quickly.  Going to try again shortly.  I think my best bet might be 40 meters, a little later tonight.

Edit:  In the meantime, here is what I'm just starting on.  I figured it would be fun for my first tube project.

Love those tube rigs.  I've acquired some vintage goodies like tube sockets, vintage looking knobs (someone on eBay is selling nice replicas) and am looking forward to building.  I have my stash of 2E26's, and am ready to go!

You can find a lot of retro stuff at Antique Electronic Supply www.tubesandmore.com.

The 2E26 is a nice tube for low power transmitters. It's easy to drive with something like a 6AQ5 or 6AK6.

If you want to do crystal control www.af4k.com has a good supply of crystals for popular frequencies. They're modern crystals and can't take the drive current of the old FT243 quartz slab rocks, so you have to be careful what circuit you use.
