So my wife apparently took a real liking to me bringing my HF rig with me on my last hunting trip.  Being able to pass 3rd party messages to her kept her from worrying and save me from driving a couple hours and burning a bunch of fuel to make a phone call just to say, "All's good."  Long story short, I get to help somebody else out on a deer/cow elk hunt and I'm going to be heading back out to the field.  When I asked her if I should bring my radio again she pretty much told me she'd kick me if I didn't.

So while I don't know exactly where I'll be yet, it should be grid DM28 or DM29, west of Ely, NV  (that's Nevada not Ne-vahhh-duh ) if I remember right (I think I was told NV hunt unit 131)

So for my last /P go around I made up some QSL cards for the trip and plan to do the same for this.  These portable ops are fun and I enjoyed putting together some QSL cards for it.

Operation last time worked quite well on 40M with my G5RV.  Don't know if conditions will change, nor how far from cell I'll be (no service in/near camp reportedly--perfect for HF!).

According to my last /p hunting camp log most my radio time was around 0300-0500Z so plan is I'll call CQ Arfcoms somewhere around the bottom of the general portion of the 20M band (if still open) and into the 40M band from around 0315Z time to 0345 (probably switching to 40 at the bottom of the hour).  Might be able to get setup as early as Saturday the 8th (Early AM 10/9 on Zulu time).  I'll try to run this each evening until I'm back to the QTH (hopefully NLT than Wednesday).  And of course times are flexible and weather depending.

Hope to hit a few of you up.

That is a BIG lipo!

Is the wife licensed?  Or do you just send updates to a monitoring radio on a set freq?

LiFe is my guess 8.4aH

LiFePO4 battery. Don't recall Ah off hand I want to say 12. Runs for a while though--comparable if not better than larger and heavier 18Ah SLA. One of these days I'm going to try some actual testing on diginmodes into a dummy load.

Wife isn't licensed. I send as a 3rd party message through another hamster.

On a total side topic, I'm a bit amazed by how big the 7200 is. My 706 is roughly the same size as the IT100 tuner (radio is longer, but its the same width)...

Nice setup. Don't think I've seen an elk camp QTH picture in QST yet. Maybe you should go for it.

I've hunted down in that area.
There are some big Elk down there.
I used to live in Carlin, Nevada, and worked in Eureka, Nevada so am familiar with that area of the state.
Have fun.

I used to live in Delta, UT, about 150 miles east of Ely. Good luck on the hunt.

Nice setup.
