Joined the ranks of the Dundidit today. Went to the Va Beach Hamfest, took the Technician Class test and...
PASSED!!! Interestingly, while wife unit and I were wandering around the hall where the Hamfest was, the announcer spoke up and said the 1st new Technician can come up and claim a $50 gift certificate. So, I went up there and got it. W00t! Used it to buy an antenna mast mount (and a study guide for the General). |

Thanks for the kind words.
And, thanks to all the folks that pointed out all the on-line stuff. I only spent about 2-3 hours looking over those study guides and taking a couple of practice tests. It really made it fairly easy, even though I haven't taken a test like that in almost 30 years. Brain still works, it seems. |

Congrats! Now go take the General exam while the info is still fresh in your brain. This, and join us on the weekly digital net. Let me be your first DX contact. As soon as I figure out how to do that, I'm there! |
Congratulations! Now lube up your credit card! We'll be happy to help you use it.
If you don't have an antenna to put on that mast, whey not make one? A "Copper Cactus" is pretty easy if you have a propane torch. Here are a couple of plans. More are available online. http://www.eham.net/articles/2418 http://www.n7qvc.com/copper-cactus-dual-band-super-j-pole-antenna-project/ While you're in study mode, go ahead and get your General. A lot of what you learned for your Tech will carry over. Besides. HF is where the really fun stuff happens. |

there was a ham fest this weekend in the beach? how did i miss that? wouldnt have done me much good since i was in class all day sat but still, i could have hit it on my lunch brake. They had testing running from 9 to noon. The people downstairs at the HamFest had no idea where the testing room was, though. I ended up finding it myself.
