[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Help with mobile choice

Bear with me guys. I know this has been asked to death and I HAVE searched.

Planning my mobile emcomm setup. I'm wanting a dual band but also want the noaa weather broadcast AND shortwave reception (like my vx7r)

Do any dual band mobiles also receive shortwave transmissions?

Can't think of any mobiles that have shortwave reception like that HT, except for actual all-mode mobile radios. I can't imagine there is anything on the market that can't receive the NOAA weather broadcasts on 162 MHz.

I would suggest the Kenwood TM-V71 for a good general purpose dual band FM mobile.

With today's technology, one you put in a HF receiver, it's not that expensive to add the transmit circuitry, so you're probably not going to find a VHF/UHF transceiver with a HF receive-only function.

Get a separate radio for HF. The broader the RX range of the radio the more prone to intermod it will be. Super annoying...

Plus you want something that will also receive SSB and not just AM. Lots of stuff that would be worth hearing would not be AM.
