I've heard several folks over the last few months tell me that they need an AK QSO.  Well I finally dusted off my IC-751 and plugged it into the OCFD that's haphazardly hanging in my yard.  Let's try for a SSB QSO.  I'm not currently set up for digital and I don't speak Morse (yet).

I have beer on hand and some time to spend in front of the radio.  Maybe tomorrow I'll get my Signalink USB jumpered correctly for this dinosaur.

Give me a freq and we'll give it a shot.

Too late for propagation to AK from NH right now. How about 20M someday between 1900 and 2200 UTC?

Oddly enough I got two AK stations in the RTTY contest today.

I'm always up for an AK contact!  In fact, I need AK on PSK-31 any band, but 20M is probably our best bet.

sorry guys, I got pulled away from the radio for a minute.  I'm back now, for a few minutes anyway.

Look around the archives for Feb '12.

Beefington and I made a QSO after about 3 hours of drama.

He was freezing in a snowbank and I ate a burned dinner off the floor and peed in a wastebasket to stay on taks.

We FINALLY made a QSO on 14.272.

I actually did it with the PRC-320 because it seemed to have a better receiver than the IC-718 I was running with at the time.

If I recall (and I might be wrong) to get the final QSO I had to transmit on the '718 and receive on the '320!

Still, we did it.

2x2 and that's good enough!

Thanks to the Arfcommer that middle manned the deal and made it happen!

Your card and Beefington's card share the same frame on my wall.

If I remember correctly, my QSL card for that QSO was hand scrawled on a 3x5 card with a bloody bear claw while I pulled myself out of the snowbank.  My imagination might be filling in some of the details that my memory blocked out.  The brain is a funny thing.

That it is and it looks very distinguished next to Brundoggie's card made of Koa wood.

I am equally proud to have both on display.
