So in the ARFcom DCF net I pondered aloud about setting up an Echolink or IRLP simplex station. The Kenwood TM-V71A was suggested as it has Echolink support built into it.  It just so happens I have such a unit mounted in my truck.

So is there a "turnkey" (or semi-) that works with the Rasberry Pi (reasonably inexpensive) and the TM-V71A (that I already have) over WiFi (parked in my driveway)?

While I'd love to obtain a new radio solely for this purpose, in true Ham-fashion I'd  like to leverage existing equipment with minimal new equipment purchase. In other words I don't want to torque the wife with a cash outlay for a new radio/antenna/whatnot.

Cale, perhaps a show about Echolink/IRLP?

I would Not use the Kenwood TM-V71A

I tried one on my IRLP node and thought I was going to cook it at only 5 watts.

That is odd. I have a friend that runs a 710 for hours on end on medium power as an echolink node. It is the same radio bodies between the two radios.
