Hi,
I just got my GMRS license and am in the process of setting up my radio (Baofeng). I'm adding a couple of repeaters to my list that have PL tone frequencies. Using CHIRP software does this look correct for location 26 to have a PL Tone of 141.3 and location 30 192.8? |

BTW, Baofengs are illegal ( not certified) to be used on GMRS frequencies. https://images.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fmakeameme.org%2Fmedia%2Fcreated%2FHes-right-you.jpg&f=1 srry Really? I honestly though they were. I was reading on some other forum (for GRMS) that they were acceptable. Well shit, I guess it's back to the drawing board. Anyone know of a economic GMRS radio that can be programmed to use PL tones for repeaters? |

One should read the rules stated in Part 95A and decide what they get from them. The Part 90 versus Part 95 debate is a long back and forth debate (there are several of the same sort in GMRS) which often vary depending on what field officer you talk to (no unified answering). Do Baofeng's work on GMRS, yes. Are they the best options, no. Are they "legal", depends on how you read the rules (very easy to read like the Constitution). Some of my favorite HT's (hands down just favorites) are the Motorola GP300, Motorola P1225, Motorola Sabers, Motorola HT750s, Motorola HT1000, Motorola XPR6550, Icom F21, Icom F4GS, Icom F4021T…only the first couple of each favorite are actually certified for Part 95A. All of them require some sort of purchased programming software…often times use proprietary antenna and speaker mic connectors. |

Anyone know of a economic GMRS radio that can be programmed to use PL tones for repeaters? You were told so because many people use them for GMRS and MURS. Technically the radios are not certified but I have never heard of anyone getting in trouble because of that, especially if they have GMRS license. Since they are illegal. You can send them to me for proper, certified disposal. I can tell you how you can do this yourself. It will take several weekends and about $12. |
