A radioshack 40cl ssb in to a 1960,s amp [looks like a hombre] out to a mfj swr meter with 6ft of coax . to a 11meter dipole thumbtack to the sheetrock in the ham shack..The swr is over 4. not knowing shit about dipoles..this is the olny one I have....DO I need a longer coax maybe 25 or 30 feet ,rolded up ,will this drop my swr...kf5wre

You's trolling.

A shitrock, I mean sheetrock mounted antenna requires a special tuner.

NO I'm not kidding  Ok I started drinking early but that my 11 meter rig...

You're probably going to have to fold your dipole.

and lose the amp to be CoC compliant.

The answers to a few answers would really help.

How long are the legs of the dipole?  Did you do the calculations or buy something pre-made?

What kind of connection is there between the dipole legs and the coax.

What kind of coax?

I'm not familiar at all with that radio / amp.  Do you know what impedance they expect at the antenna jack?

Well, yes.  Enough coax will drop your SWR.  I'd recommend at least 150ft of the cheapest RatShack stuff you can get your hands on.  Just buy the small sections and use connectors to put them together.  That will help, too.

Do you have your sheetrock shunt installed in your coax, good buddy? You can use a straight pin in a pinch.

Ah, "pinning".  That brings back memories of the 1970's .  Fun times in my old neighborhood though it was only talked about.  Didn't know anyone who it actually happened to since we were all on good terms with each other and if someone did do it, the list of suspects was rather short.  The D-104's, Shakespeare Big-Stick's, Avanti 5/8 (had that one), SSB on 16 and 18 and local evening talks on channel 7.  Used to see the folks in high school during the day and we chatted at night.  Hard to believe that was FORTY years ago.

If I were going to go on 11M today, I would do it with a legal CB radio.  I worked too hard to get my ham license (exactly 26 years ago TODAY my license was issued) and my GROL with RADAR.  They would be yanked in a minute by the FCC for illegal activity.

It's the sheetrock.   Plays hell with your velocity factor and before you tell me I'm wrong just try walking through it.

There are simpler, and cheaper, ways to heat a room.  Thats all he's doing... and the stink of alcohol.

If the op ever sobers up and is not just trolling...  Remove the amp, hang the dipole outside as high and clear of other objects as possible.  Your contacts will increase and sound stronger.

A poor quality amplifier into an inefficient antenna is just a heater and noise generator.  You'll see no benefit.
