| I normally run S7-S9 on 20m as far as static. I've turned off every breaker in the house and no changes were seen so that tells me maybe it's nothing at home. If it's a power line can I call the company and have them look into it or am I stuck? |

Turn the radio to AM. Turn noise blanker and noise reduction off. What does the noise sound like? Or, better yet, post up a recording and we'll take turns guessing what it sounds like the problem is. Power line noise has a distinct sound. Here is an example I recorded, other times it sounds like bacon frying. |

Those "crashes" when it peaks sound like arcing to me... kind of. Hard to hear with the recording. FWIW the last free version of HRD does recording if you have the cables to hook up to your computer. Check and make sure you have the "IPO" option enabled on that Yaesu. That will turn the preamp off which you don't need for the lower bands at all. |

IPO stays turned off most of the time and was off when I filmed the noise. When I turn it on it doesn't quiet the noise much. The attenuator? ATT setting turned on turns it down to 0. But it's hard to pick up weaker signals with it on. |

Another odd turn. I just tuned the tuner for 80m for a net and now my noise level on 20m to S0. Is it something to do with the tuner? That's normal, the tuner is no longer tuned for 20 Meters, so all signals including noise are weaker. Noise is just a signal like any other, just undesirable. |

You are on the menu for noise reduction, does it help to turn DNF and or DNR on? Pretty sure I run both all the time on my 857D. Also, you need to be set to USB and be on a freq where there is traffic to get a better feel for how your noise selections are affecting you. And is AGC on or off? |

Also make sure AGC is on and don't be afraid to use IF Gain knob to reduce gain thus reducing noise and you'll still be able to hear the stations. |
