I am trying to learn cw. Used the K6RAU code course last year and learned a lot from it but since I didn't have an HF rig set up, I never used what I learned. Decided to get back at it last week and again began the K6RAU course. Everything was going great until I tried to open one of the lessons and it seems they are not currently accessible.
So, what is the best way (website, app, freq, banging two sticks together...) to learn "the international morse code"? |
| I like the G4FON trainer. (Windows only). It uses the Koch method, and you don't have to be online to use it. |

Another vote for g4fon I'm a fan of the lesson plans from Zen and the Art of Radiotelegraphy. There's now a Kindle edition available. |

While you're learning to receive CW, also practice your sending skills. Get a straight key and a code practice oscillator (CPO) and strive to duplicate as closely as possible machine sent CW. Once you gain stright key proficiency, you can move up to paddles. Most HF transceivers can be used as a CPO by simply switching off the VOX or "Break-In" function.
Also consider joining the Straight Key Century Club. You can find a lot of help there, and the monthly "sprints" are good practice. The ARRL website has mp3 files of the W1AW code practice sessions: http://www.arrl.org/code-practice-files One source of keys, paddles, and other CW items. http://morsex.com/ |
