And it's wireless.  Here's a demo ===>

Don't ask me any questions about Flex, I don't have one, not planning on getting one.  But a friend knows
all about the Flex radios.  He occasionally drops in here.

I saw them at Dayton. I guess it is cool but not my cuppa tea, besides $1000 will buy a heck of a laptop.

Yo dawg, we heard you like to connect your radio to a radio, so we connected your radio to a radio with a radio.

I do have one and it is definitely my cuppa tea. However, $1000 will buy a heck of a laptop. In fact, I just bought a Windows based tablet specifically to run my Flex Radio over the LAN. It was fairly expensive but still less than $1000.

We had a thread on this subject before. I didn't get it then, and I still don't get it.

Ok, so you don't need a PC. Well, I guess some people don't.

I do.

I want to log on the PC, I want to do digital modes on the PC, I want to surf ARFCOM on the PC, I want to use my Bluetooth headset with the PC, I might want to run Winlink. If I had a rotator, I could control it with the PC, I can be on, online sked pages on the PC, I can be checking propagation on the PC, I can be looking at my LOTW and see if I need that country on that band on the PC, I can look at QRZ on the PC, I want to check DX spots with the PC......................................... AND, I can do everything that device will do; AT THE SAME TIME as I do all that other stuff with the same (one) device.

I bought a 6700 so I can display 8 slices. Why would I want to run this Ferrari with one arm tied behind my back ?

This is for people that want to say they have an SDR but don't really want an SDR.

Guess I really don't wanna have to boot up a computer to use my radio...

Flex is trying to optimize their radio for contest operators and for the guys that just have to have knobs on their radio. Its a smart marketing move and I am sure that the knobs will bring a new batch of guys to the Flex fold.

I am quite happy using a computer to run my Flex 6500, and can't see spending $1K to get their wireless interface.  However from the video demonstration it certainly is a neat option for those that want to spend the money.

I like the idea of being able to take something like that with me to the yard while I'm smoking a cigar or in front of the TV.

However it's shockingly expensive for what is (probably) an Android tablet and a handful of rotary encoders and buttons.

I am beating a dead horse here, but you CAN take something like that with you to the yard or in front of the TV.
A tablet or a laptop.
And you are running the same software with the exact same user interface that you would be in the shack.

This thing would be very cool if you couldn't already run your Flex radio over a LAN, but you can.

I know, and I do. But the other night I was on the porch and thought it would be fun to tune around HF. Went to rdesktop into the machine that the Flex is connected to. Remembered I just moved and changed the network settings, got the new IP. Connected with CoRD but that VAC stream wasn't forwarding correctly. Vaguely remembered I used a hand crafted rdesktop command last time, messed with that for a few minutes, realized my cigar was probably dying, and gave up on it.

Sometimes it's nice to have an appliance to operate

Don't mind me, I am sitting here, with all kinds of stuff I would like to be doing, only it is raining ............... AGAIN.............so I have too much time on my hands. So I am wasting it sitting here posting on ARFCOM.
2 1/2 hours to kill before I have to be to work.

Looks like fun.  But I cant justify spending another $3500 for this when I already have a 1500 and a 5000 and would be cheaper to just buy the competition.
