I ran across SSTV the other day and downloaded an app to decode the signal for my phone. It's fascinating. I've had an interest in getting started with ham for a while, but it seems a bit overwhelming. I have a basic understanding of some parts, but I don't really know where to begin. I'm looking for some advice on where to start. At this point, I don't really have a particular goal in mind. I just find it interesting and would like to get licensed and start somewhere. Any ideas? |

Welcome to the "other" BRD (Black Radio Disease)! You may want to start here
If you likes SSTV, then you will want at least a General Class license. Download a WEFAX app and watch weather satellite images and maps re-broadcast on HF for more fun. |

Start Here.
There are VE exams to get a US license in Germany. If you are there under the SOFA you can then get a reciprocal license to operate with a German call. Get this book to study for your tech exam. And this one for your General exam. Go ahead and study and take both as chances for a US exam in Germany are limited. I recommend the books over on-line study guides because they have info you will end up referring back to once you are on the air. |
