So I was looking at the PTT for my headset and got to thinking..., http://i57.tinypic.com/2usylhj.jpg Looks like I'll be heading down to Frys to source some parts. Looks comfortable and vaguely familiar... Great idea! Bill |
| The push button switch I wound up with, while nice and long, turned out needs too much pressure to use and I'm sure will be annoying after a short while. Sent an email to Heil if they'll sell just the switch with trigger pad. The switch is a Cherry model E6940A0 which Allied has for $2.77 then I'd need to make my own trigger pad by Dremeling down a piece of plastic or maybe whittling down a piece of wood. I'd have to widen the slot in the grip for it to fit and would likely just epoxy it into place. But it has a pretty good feel based on what Heil has done with it. |

My son has access to high end 3D printers I'm thinking a small micro-switch would have an easier pull to it and maybe even add a trigger guard I was thinking about having a lower with a trigger in it and a micro-switch linked to the trigger, but then I immediately thought about weight and nixed the idea. Perhaps one of the 3d printed lowers with most of it cut away save for the space required to install the trigger. Of course the idea was to do this on the cheap. But like all other ham projects it'll probably end up with me opening my wallet and dumping everything out. Considering the Heil hand switch is only $30 to start with.... |

This has crossed my mind when I bought the Heil PTT trigger. Actually I was thinking about buying one of those toy pistols that look like the real ones . An existing trigger can be modified to operate a small button.
BTW, a car door opener key fob can be modified and used as a PTT button too. I saw one for sale at Dayton. |

Interesting thought I think he has the files for a lower |

The straight line piece and U shaped thing on the bottom left--extra parts? Yes. I had to trim the strap a bit.
