I've only posted once in this forum, in this thread -> http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_10_22/678412_Picking_up_a_portable_handheld_for_SHTF___I_have_no_license___limited_knowledge_w__hams.html&page=2.
Well, I took the test for the tech license today. 35 for 35, 100%.
So... how long before I get a call sign and show up in the FCC database? |

Congratulations! Takes less than a week, unless they're busy (holidays, etc). And you don't need your license in hand to operate; once you're in the database, you are GTG. Thanks. That's pretty quick for a government agency. I expected a few weeks to a month. I forgot to ask one of the VEs. |

Wow: good for you. You were taking a beating in that previous thread and I am really happy you decided to get your license. And as you found out, there was nothing to it. Welcome to the community. I look forward to working you on the air. Nope, I wasn't the OP, you misread it. But thanks for the congrats. |

(trimmed) So out of curiosity, I just tried a sample test for general on hamstudy.org.... passed, with one more correct than minimum. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.
This is exactly why I tell all new guys to take the General if they pass Tech. And to study for both. At the very least, look over the General material. Nobody but your 3rd grade teacher cares if you made a 100%. Even if you do, the FCC isn't going to put a gold star and smiley face on your license. A pass is as good as a 100%. Q. What to they call the guy that was in last place in his class in medical school? A. "Doctor". A big Congratulations! on getting licensed. Now study and go back and take the General ASAP! |

Q. What to they call the guy that was in last place in his class in medical school? A. "Doctor" Oh so true. My wife is a physician...the other med students in her class had a formula for how to become a doctor. P=MD where: P=pass As long as you pass the test, nobody cares what you score but you. |
Welcome!
