Hey guys,
I just recently got an antenna up at my new location, and I'm trying to get my radio to link up to my computer.
The IC-756 (non PRO) came with the CT-17 cable, but no install disc. everything I can find says the drivers for this patch cable are not plug and play.
I can't locate a free driver for this set up, am I gonna have to buy another cable with the driver disc?

I'm eyeballing the signalink box for psk in the future, the remote port on the 756 doesn't support PTT.

Whole station is: IC-756, MFJ-984 tuner, SB-220 amp, CN-801 meter, and inverted v OCF @35'

listening to a round table on 7.200, they keep going back to "eggs benedict" as the topic on conversation... what a hoot.

Is this what you want?

The Icom CT-17 is a Serial device there should be no drivers required

No, evidently Icom only supports current production radios. (or at least newer than mine!)

Hmm, I read that as well. Could be operator error.
Or my 20 year old radio could be at fault I suppose, the "remote" 1/8' jack feels a little loose.

Doesn't the 756 have a mini DIN data port on it? That's how I've got digital modes through the 706 set up. Data port is not for rig control, just audio in/out and PTT.

The CT-17 cable is a nearly useless device.  It will not replace a proper digital interface.  I have not
found a use for it.

No DIN port.
I was just gonna see what I could do with the darn thing because it came with the radio. (CT-17)
What my google fu tells me I have to get a proper interface to do anything digital, which is ultimately what I want.
There are two 13 pin mic ports on the back, one marked accessory, I believe that is the direction I need to go.

There you go. Accessory port will work.

I just found a manual for the IC-756.  The 756 does not have the 13-pin acc port, but does have the 8-pin.  Some of the pins in the 8-pin port are the same as the ones needed for the 13-pin port for this interface.  So you would need to get this interface, remove the 13-pin plug, and replace it with an 8-pin DIN plug.

I have the pin out description for both the IC-718 and the IC-756, so it would only be a matter of soldering four wires.

http://www.donnerstore.org//index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65_70&products_id=187

You will need an RS-232 to USB adapter.  If you don't have one, the one Donner sells is as good as any.

The wire that previously went to pin 2 of the 13-pin plug (Ground) would be soldered to pin 2 of the ACC(1) 8-pin plug.

The wire that previously went to pin 3 of the 13-pin plug (Send) would be soldered to pin 3 of the ACC(1) 8-pin plug.

The wire that previously went to pin 11 of the 13-pin plug (Mod) would be soldered to pin 4 of the ACC(1) 8-pin plug.

The wire that previously went to pin 12 of the 13-pin plug (AF) would be soldered to pin 5 of the ACC(1) 8-pin plug.

Now plug this into ACC(1) socket on your 756.

The CT-17 is used for Rig Control to chande and read the frequency and mode

What you need to do is to make an adapter to go from the
audio in & out from your Soundcard to the aux port on the radio.
