I just ordered a 6BTV and was wondering if I could use electric fence wire for my ground radials. I have a bunch of it from when we had horses on the property and will only need to use them for a few months until I install the antenna on my all metal barn.

If the electric fence wire isn't a good option, I am open to other suggestions.

When I was researching radials I found a lot of people that used electric fence wire from Tractor Supply and the only drawback was how long it would last which at a minimum was X years.

If I hadn't had 5000' of copper wire on hand I would have used electric fence wire.

If I had the electric fence wire like you, I'd have no problem using it.  I didn't have that option, so I used DX Engineering Pre-Assembled Radial Wire Kits.

Fence wire will work, aluminum electric fence wire is my favorite to use in that application.

Also, hopefully you've seen:

Don't cut ground radials to the free space 1/4 wavelength... they should be just under 2/3 of that length for best performance.

Right or wrong, electric fence wire is what I used.

When laying down radials, you will reach a point where you realize that wireless communication takes a lot of wire!

Thanks all, lots like I'll give the electric fence wire a shot.

Good info in the link, Gamma!
