Quoted: The only problem (if this is about who I think it is) is that the guy sounds really knowledgeable if you're as inexperienced as I am. If you older and wiser heads don't call shenanigans on his posts many newbies won't know better. Pretty much, he's the living example of the phrase "Better to keep your mouth shut and appear ignorant than to open your mouth and remove all doubt". He jumped all over me in a post that went on for 1/2 a page about how I was a product of the lack of elmers and I should have sought out a qualified elmver blah blah blah. For a good portion of my adult life (from 23 to 43. 6 months ago) my nearest neighbor was 7 miles away. The nearest stop sign was 35 miles away. Not a lot of elmers in that part of the world lol. |

Elmers... This forum is my elmer and its one of the reasons why I don't want to see bad info or rude posts. I live in an area with 3 clubs within 25 miles. But I don't exactly fit in with any of them. Theres really nothing wrong with the groups, they just are not what I am looking for.
This forum however fits well with my interests. What I am not interested in, I simply skip reading. |

this is bar none the BEST ham forum on the internet.... we should keep it that way ignore is great but - there are some who google info and end up here..... they'd read those posts same as anyone elses - without the background info behind us ignoring him they'd take the info as knowledge....... tough either way

I had to go back to the thread I thought this was based on. Holy crap! Ignore just doesn't seem to be enough. I've seen much pompous pontificating from the individual in question, but haven't seen any abuse or anything dangerous (e.g. battery as a lightning arrester). Is it a CoC violation to post a link to the specific discussion, or has it already been Moderated? |

Members with thin skin or low tolerance for stupid should just use the ignore button, as to not detract from the radio/tech discussions. The quasi-AROCK move is almost as bad as the LID in question. Time outs for everyone. |

No CoC violation that I know of, but I chose not to perpetuate the discussion by giving it another link. As far as ignore not being enough goes, when any individual's information is shown to be so very wrong, I'd love to see a way for the mods have a way to flag it as BS without the thread going south. That might also fix the issue mentioned here that non members might Google (or Bing) for an answer and treat the BS as gospel. Hopefully anyone searching would be smart enough to look at several sources, but you never know. |
