I have a problem with RT Systems software for the 857D.  I cannot use the software to program a split into a memory location.  I reported it to RT Tech Support and got the following:

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for sending us your information on the issue you're having. We have been able to duplicate the issue here in the office and our developers are taking a look at it now.

I will be keeping this ticket open and will email you as soon as we have the issue fixed. We should hopefully have an update here within a couple of days.

Thank you for your patience.

Domenic

I don't know if anyone else has seen this problem, but RT is working on it.

Yes, it is.  Shortly after I posted. I received another e-mail:

Hello again,

After further investigation, the fix for this is pretty easy. What you'll need to do is click on Settings | Preferences | Memory Defaults. On that screen, there is an option that says, "Convert Split offsets to standard Plus or Minus when available." If you uncheck that box and apply the settings, that will keep the programmer from creating an offset for split frequencies after saving a file. You can resend your file to the radio with it set to split and it will function as expected.

If you still have trouble with the issue, let us know and we'll be glad to help.

Thanks again,

Domenic

That worked.  Of course, you have to be facing north-east and have your left arm extended parallel to the ground.

Nothing like some personal service!  Two thumbs up for RT Systems!

If you have RT software for multiple radios you can, within the limitations of the radio hardware itself, use exactly the same profile on all your radios.  Even across brands.

Of course the bad news is you have to buy the RT software for each radio if you want to do that.

Look at the G4HFQ web site....

What I did was send the RT Systems software and cable back - since I bought it at HRO and had made several large purchases they had no qualms about taking it back.

Then I downloaded the G4HFQ software and sent the credit card information and activated the account.

The G4HFQ software allows you to edit the program list and change things - like combine the list and arrange it by frequency and delete frequencies etc.

The CHIRP software does basically the same thing for free.

The only thing the RT Systems is good for is the cable...
With my Yaesu FT 8900 I was very limited as to what I could do with the programming software...

The best thing about the G4HFQ was that I was able to read the whole radio, change settings in the memory, set up banks, and could see if there was a problem with the radio without having to go through the stupid menu's and have to know what was wrong for each frequency..

The biggest problem I had with the 8900 was changing the PL and getting the radio to remember it in the memory..
I never did get that function to work manually...

I did.

That's fine if all you own are Yaesu radios.  If you own multiple brands the RT systems is nice, assuming you want all your radios set up similarly.
