| I recently bought a couple of of UV-5RA's, added a better antenna and got the larger batteries. Right now they are used strictly for scanning until I can take the test. In the mean time Im trying to figure out all this thing does. Im waiting on the data cable to arrive and thought I would download CHirp and have it set up for when the cable arrives. But is there a good way to get the frequencies I want other than resorting to google? |

Yep, it is very easy - Under the radio tab, there will be an Import and Query Data source, and sub options under each. Using the RepeaterBook link, you can look up (and program) repeaters (and offsets and tones) for local and any other repeaters. That actually worked. I clicked a few of the other options but it brought up a username and password for the site. The repeater one imported the local frequencies. Thanks for the help. I have a ton to learn. |

Since you're in Arkansas (official repeater listings):

Another option is to go to ReapterBook and sign up for an account (it's free, but it can take a day or so to get 'approved')
Once you have an account you can look up repeater freq/offsets based on criteria (like along a road you use, or for a trip you're going to take) and it can export a CSV file for CHIP. Once you have that file it's easy to import it into your radio's image into whatever channels you wish. |

While this thread is about the Baofeng UV-5R, there are instructions and tips on using CHIRP, as well as screenshots.
