So I've got QSOs logged on paper, eQSL, LOTW, and maybe others. Which should I really use and which grants rewards (DXCC, WAS, etc.).
ETA: I need to design my QSL card too. Ugh... there's so much to do/learn. |

The governing body is the ARRL. They issue awards etc.
They accept paper and Log of the World. They do NOT accept eQSL. The ARRL will let you combine paper and Log of the World, though. Paper is nice in that it's tangible. It is also expensive. I figure that every DX QSL card costs between $3-5 to send out and some much more than that. Log of the world can and will save you more money that you'll save by switching to GEICO. |

Ugh... there's so much to do/learn. http://www.w4mpy.com/ Well done inexpensive cards. Pick one. http://www.radioqth.net/qslcards Design and print your own on card stock, or even just a piece of typing paper. You don't have to buy expensive cards. |
| I use paper, LOTW and EQSL. In my thinking, it helps other people going for awards here and in other countries who may need my QSL. It also keeps my options open for non-US awards. For instance, I am waiting for just a few more QSL cards to arrive so I can send off to JARL (Japan Amateur Radio League) for a Japan Century Cities Award. They accept paper, but not LOTW. |

LoTW is a PIA to set up but once done it's real easy to upload your QSOs. Applying for the awards is easy through LoTW also. To capture those who don't do LoTW there is the old school paper card method. The card cost isn't the issue, postage is. Figure on $4 a pop to send a card on the hope that it doesn't get pilfered, lost, or sunk by German U-Boats during it's journey. Domestic cards is cheaper but still $1 a shot. For whatever reason I get a better return on DX cards than I do on domestic cards. In a nutshell, LoTW should be your primary with paper as secondary. As for the design, pick something that interests you. Myself I went with a photo of one of the major landmarks of the area. However my CW cards have a look of something from the 1920s. Whatever. Pick something. Geez, get 3x5 card stock and print your own. We don't care. |

Up loading to LOTW and eQSL takes 2-3 min. If I have one that does not get reply on them and I need it, I send paper. |
