Good Friday Morning

I was up in the shack/barn looking around after feeding the hens when I spotted something...

I had forgotten an EE Arf-buy from a few months back.

I bought as a package with a Kenwood Mic for one of my base stations.

The Icom IC-T2H is vintage 1998 according to the manual. Some of the nice features include a removable AA (8) battery tray, BNC antenna and pretty simple keypad programming.  I have 2 battery 'trays' and an antenna (that looks like it's spent too much time in the baggie).

I was considering a Baofeng 5R for the utility of a Get Home Bag HT, utilizing the AA Battery Tray, Eliminator and etc...But since stumbling over this rig (which works BTW) I'll spend that $30 on a mic and some Li batteries to store with this radio. (in the end the accessories for this one will cost more than a complete Baofeng rig).

I'm a fan of low-cost and good service, and an even bigger fan of using whatcha' got!

Now as to a Get Home Bag....I never leave the Farm much, but what they heck-I guess I'm off to put something together.....

The IC-T2H was my first HT.  It is presently preforming the exact role you have planned for yours - in the emergency bag in my car.  I am running Eneloop rechargeables in it, and also keep a second full set of batteries in the bag.  They are great radios!

Wasn't too long ago there were a LOT of commercial HTs with BNC fittings on them.

That was my first ham HT as well.  Still have it as my primary radio.  Great rig,

for those who have/had one.

is it worth the cost for the Rechargeable Battery & Cradle; given my intended use?

Shoulder Mic is a No-Brainer (for my taste)....

I wouldn't spring for the charger/cradle if it's just going to sit in your GHB.
My first HT was an Icom micro2at.

I would suggest Sanyo Eneloop batteries.  They hold a charge for a long time, and you can pop them right into the standard battery holder.  I have switched to Eneloop batteries for almost everything in the house.

That's what I do as well.  Also got a good 8 battery charger.   Those Sanyos do very well in the T2H.  Plus you can use the charger for everything else you use AA batteries with in the house.
