Wondering if anyone has used old Nextel phones in the off network Direct Talk mode (900 mhz ISM band, digital voice FHSS)?

WAY back in the day....we had Nextel (10+ year subscriber) and would use that particular 'feature' when we'd camp up in Brevard NC. The Nextel service would drop out just before the gate and if we could remember to switch the phone it'd work (as long as everyone else remembered to switch too).
Maybe it was us, the terrain, or aliens; but it was OK at best and reminded me of the limitations of bubble-pack radios.....Never thought to try the feature while at home or anywhere else.....sorry, not much help! |
