I just got number 1000 Venezuela on 12m. Hot damn, I never thought it would come!!!!!

Congrats!
That's a big accomplishment. Don't think it will never happen, for me. I didn't think I could either with wire antennas. Your big handicap is you don't have 40m and 80m. Although I don't have DXCC on 80m every single one counts. My highest band is somewhere around 170 which is do-able with 100w and patience. |

I'd have to get 200 countries on each of 5 bands (10-20 meters) AND, I would have to do that with a wire in the attic. It makes 5 band WAS sound easy.
30 meters is just a novelty for me, as my 20 meter dipole is not very efficient on that band. None of the 5 band awards are easy. 80m DXCC is a thorn in my side. And I am not sure I will ever get DXCC on 160m. It is really tough. I have been trying to decide if I care enough about 6m to make a stealthy wire yagi to point to SA. I would love to get to the mid 20s on 6m. |

I was under the impression that there were approximately 200 countries in the world - the 'official' count being about 196. But, your post made me check up on the Ham Rules for Countries ;) In doing so, I found that (on one site) there are 338 countries that qualify for country status. Granted, those locations aren't all inhabited, hence the term (as I understand it) DXpeditions. Learned something new today - besides the fact that I'm scoring just under 85% on my tech practice exams (so I'm learning something there too) |

Look for Kosovo to be added soon though. |

I quit studying for Tech at about 80%, and started studying for General. Passed both at one sitting easily. There is a bunch of overlap in the test material, although the General obviously goes deeper. Still, I encourage you to stop with the tech, study for General for 1 week, then take a Tech practice test. $10 says your Tech score will have improved. |

That's awesome! Thanks. I doubt you are too far behind. Not anytime soon unless you retire from radio! http://i.imgur.com/Smrop97.png Well you have two bands for DXCC which is really sweet! 10m is one good opening behind. Great work. |

A hearty well done sir.
Unless some major life change occurs my station will never be up to the "Challenge". Wire in the attic is never going to get there. As it is I'm having a ball chasing the next new DX and finding that missing state for 5BWAS. If you run out things to do you may want to chase grids and DX on 6m. Or beat your head with a cinder block. About the same. My DX count on that band is 8 with grids at 48 toward VUCC. Catch a tropo opening and the Caribbean is there for the taking. The twice a year trans-equatorial prop opens up South America. |

It is just getting a lot harder
There are about 15 countries I have on 9 bands now and I am having a lot of fun on 40m and 80m right now. I worked Namibia on 80m last night! |

I took down my 6 meter hoop that was low and bolted to my deck and put up a rotatable 6 meter dipole about 15 feet higher I have yet to make a 6 meter contact since going to the "better" antenna
