I thought this one looked a little interesting.

Made it hot
Hmmm more money than a baofeng radio. No buttons for frequency input. God only knows about support. Give me my FT60. |

Might be PC programming only, not sure. I was interested in the fact that it had wide RX. .54-999mhz. similar to some of the yaesu and Kenwood models. I have the Kenwood thf6a tri band, it cost around 4 times as much as this radio does. yes, interesting indeed! |

If you're looking for less fiddly bits and cheap, the Baofeng UV-3R is still available for about 30 bucks. I was going to suggest this. Runs on a cell-phone type battery to just like the one in the OP. But I have to agree about the Baofeng UV-5R. Much more bang for less bucks! -Emt1581 |

ETA: just bought a few UV-3R+, nice and tiny |

I originally thought it was a sort of Yaesu VX-3R clone, but someone pointed out that it was like an older/discontinued Yaesu VX-2R. In fact, the manuals are the same and the VX-2R programming cable/software is reported to work with the ZT-2R. I don't know if Zastone licensed the design, bought the manufacturing lines, or what.

I've considered getting one just because the darn near exact copy of the Yaesu intrigues me. |

Brick, I've been keeping an eye on your blog since the UV-3R days. Nice to see you here! Appreciate you reading the blog. I get around. ;) Merry Christmas! Brick I also check your blog several times a week. I especially keep hoping to find more information about the HF ONE MKII transceiver. At $341, it's coming in a close second to a home generator for a tax refund purchase. |

Bought it. sweet! let us know how it works. The prongs on the plug are standard european style. Similar in Brazil. Most AC/DC converters will handle the US or the eurpoean voltage. You can get a plug adapter at best buy or office max for less than $30. But a designed for the US wall-wart for it might be cheaper. |

Not sure how they expect to receive anything below 2m with that antenna. You'd think so, but the ducky antenna on my VX2 does a surprisingly good job of pulling in shortwave BC stations. The radio is deaf on the AM broadcast band, however. The VX3 version mostly fixed that deficiency by adding an internal ferrite bar antenna. If the street price of this clone drops 20 bucks or so (and the performance roughly matches the VX2), it'll be damned tempting. |

Damn, that's sexy |

I'm curious about that radio also, but really interested to see if the Xiegu "MkII" radio comes into being. |

I'm curious about that radio also, but really interested to see if the Xiegu "MkII" radio comes into being. As a broke college student this little hf radio is beginning to look mighty interesting. Didn't say anything about AM but if AM was for sure included I might be termed to pick one up. Or even two. |

That was one reason I was interested in the X1N or whatever the "next gen" model is called, supposedly it had AM and FM along with 6 meters. The original Xiegu X1M's are pretty neat too, they're crazy small and supposedly work reasonably well. |

Someone just posted on the HF-One Yahoo group that their money was refunded. That does not bode well in my book for this rig. http://www.brickolore.com/2013/12/hf-one-mkii-not-looking-good.html I'll check out the Chinese websites to see if there is any more info. Why do the Chinese have such a hard-on for copying Yaesu designs? Same Chinese factory LOL
I've wondered the same thing. I will say that the receiver in my Baofeng UV3R seems more sensitive than my Yaesu VX8GR. I suspected it comparing them on a local 2m repeater and confirmed it on 70cm satellite downlinks.....to my ears anyway. $30 compared to $300
A couple years ago, I used to turn my nose up a bit at such a cheap radio. Always meant to pick up a Yaesu VX3R, just never got around to it. Decided to give the Baofeng a try and am quite impressed. For what I use them for (satellites and cross-band repeat around the yard) they are awesome little radios. Curious to see how long it will last, but at that price, I should get another for a spare. |
