I don't want a really cheap one, but I'm no pro either. I've searched around on the web and there are too many options for me to figure out. Is there a good meter for around $100? Right now all I have is a dual band 2m / 70cm mobile that puts out a max of 50 watts. I'll probably go for my general and get into HF within a year.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I know this is probably the ham equivalent of asking which is better, 9mm or .45. |

I like the Daiwa CN-801 series, They are BIG and easy to read. (Note: The Black rubber protectors on the ends slip off if desired) VHF/UHF Version http://cdn1.bigcommerce.com/server5600/f3de5/products/98/images/3256/CN_801V__84744.1367695299.1280.1280.jpg I have the HF/ VHF Version http://cdn1.bigcommerce.com/server5600/f3de5/products/97/images/2730/CN-801HP__92382.1329925528.1280.1280.jpg I plan to eventually buy a second HF/ VHF Version and a VHF/UHF Version That way I will have: A Meter for HF, A Meter for 6 Meters only, A Meter for 2 Meters (coming from my 2 meter transverter) That way I can have them in line all the time I have tried many SWR meters, Diawa and Diamond are some of the best. I have a Diamond SX-200 for HF and a Diawa CN-801 for the higher freq. bands. I like the cross needle designs much better, they are a snap to use, the SX-200 you need to switch settings and turn knobs to calculate for SWR, the Diawa you just plug in select your power range and that's it, much easier. |

I am not an MFJ hater, but I would not pay the same for that meter as the diawa. |
