I just recently passed the tech exam and I have a Motorola Maxtrac I need programmed.  My question is does anyone have the ability to program this radio.  Its a 32 channel UHF Maxtrac that currently only has the test frequency programmed from the factory.  Thanks in advance.

i've seen freeshare software out there along with the schematics for the patch cable.
You'll need a machine that runs in DOS for it to work.
they were popular in the FD until the CDMs came out and we moved up to 480mhz

I found the schematics for the cable at batlabs.com but I have no idea on finding the computer necessary to do the job.  I had a dos computer as a kid but that's not gonna help me today.  I figured someone must have the capability to program these radios.  Everyone I talk to has great things to say about this radio but nobody ever mentions programming them.  Any help with the matter would be greatly appreciated..

I am using a maxtrac for an irlp node.  To get these programmed you really have a couple of options.

1. Find a local Elmer who has the setup to do the programing.
2. Talk to a local business band 2 way radio shop.  Most of them still have the hardware and software to do the programming.  They might be willing to do it for a couple of bucks.

You can try DOS Box if you already have a cable and software.  While it was meant to run old DOS games, I know several people who have run all sorts of older DOS-based programs successfully using this.  It can't hurt to try it out, worst that happens is the software doesn't run.
