| I've heard that some cables are better (more hassle free) than others. What cable do you guys recommend for a UVB5? Many thanks |

If your computer has a DB9 serial port...then that would be the better programming cable option.
The USB version you see on Amazon uses a bootleg Prolific chip and the current Windows 7 driver doesn't work. You will have to use older version driver to get it to recognize the device. |
| I'm using a generic serial Kenwood cable (with both HT and mobile plugs) with no problems on both a UV5r and a UVB5, using factory software on WinXP. I did have to do a slight bit of trimming on the plastic on the plug as many do to enable to plug to easily fit into the radio. |

Yes, on the radio end, the Kenwood type 2-pin plug. I would highly suggest a DB-9 on the other end, and then use a RS-232 to USB adapter you know works.
I suggest you also use CHIRP and not any Baofeng software that comes with a cable or radio. CHIRP also works with about 60 other radios, popular mobiles and HTs. A half dozen programming cables and you can program about 90% of the popular radios on the market. |
