I am thinking about jumping back into SDR after about a 2 year hiatus. I previously owned both the Flex 1500 and a Flex 3000.
Is anyone running a Flex 3000 and the latest version of PowerSDR? Since the new 6000 series of radios are coming out, I have seen some Flex 3000 and 5000 radios at bargain prices. Any issues or complaints with the 3000 and latest PowerSDR? |

Wait for the 6000, its a game changa http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/q610/jnu5/flex6k_zps847578dc.jpeg If I were going to spend 7K or more I would buy the Kenwood TS-990S.

BTW I got to play with a prototype Flex brought to a hamfest. It is kinda neat. |

I like the idea of the radio having all of the horse power and the new 6000 series is not so PC dependent.
I want to get the pan adapter rig again after building a SoftRock rig. For about $1000 to $1300 I can find a used Flex 3000 to play with to satisfy that itch. I think my next new radio is going to be a KX3. A SDR radio with knobs.....

I would like to see an add on to the Flex-6000 that would be a display and knobs.
There are some after market solutions for the current line, but I think a factory option would be nice. That being said i have the 1500 and like it, though I'm a very casual operator |

I think the 6000 series is like that.....most of the processing is done on the radio. The prototype I saw looked that way. That is where the next bump in technology needs to come in. Where you can get full performance on an old laptop. The days of -"where did you go"? -"Sorry my computer crashed". Need to be a distant memory. Then the masses will flock. |

Most folks put PowerSDR on a PC that they use for every day stuff and then complain that their system is crashing. With all of the malware and junk you pick up just from daily use is enough to kill a normal PC, let alone one that your trying to run a radio with.
The new 6000 series has some tremendous processing power and it isn't Windows dependent. Like you I think that IS the step needed to make it a viable platform. |

And as much as I have become an Elecraft zealot since buying a K3, in 5-10 years these SDTs are going to be so damned good everything else is going to seem like junk. My dad is starting to play with them. He has built a few and is thinking about dumping his Icom 7800 to make room for a Flex 6000. I want to spend a contest in front of one. Put it through its paces, and see what all the fuss is about. My big concern with the SDTs is how resale value will be affected, since they are essentially computers with SO-239 connections on the back. |

My real concern on any of these SDR radios is the computer part. The 6000 being self contained takes a large portion of that concern away. I would think at some point it will have to be a 100% standalone unit. You gotta wonder what the R&D department at Flex Radio Systems looks like |
