If I get the chance my fan dipole is going up this weekend.  It will be 80 and 40, I'm thinking about something like this to go with it.  What do you all think?

10-40 METER MULTIBAND GROUNDPLANE FREESTANDING VERTICAL ANTENNA

Both Zero Five and DX Engineering make great products.

$400 is a little steep for an untuned vertical antenna that you have to then supply a tuner to use.

27 feet is too tall for a monopole vertical for a reasonable signal pattern on the higher bands.  12 or 10 meters aren't going to be good.

The same price would get you a GAP Eagle which will actually resonate on the various bands, and have a reasonable pattern.

If you wanted to put an SGC tuner up and use a bare vertical, you could probably homebrew something for a lot less than $400.  Or get a CB 5/8 wave, take a foot off the top and use your tuner.

It is built like a tank, but it is not much of an antenna for 40m.......the radials are a joke and not a very good counterpoise.  I have a friend that uses one and he says that a resonant dipole performs better on almost all bands.

Yeah after thinking about it for a while I came to the same conclusion.  I'm still going to play with a vertical for 30/20/17 so I did order some aluminum on Friday.  24 feet of tubing from DX Engineering is $17.  It will be $17 worth of fun just to experiment with no matter how it turns out.

Thanks for the heads up.  I ordered 24 feet of aluminum for less than $20 and I'll use it elevated with resonant radials.  I bet it won't be a bad antenna for less than $40.  $400 would be another story.
