Was at Barns an Noble in SLC over the weekend. Walking away from magazine racks a elderly gentleman (86-yrs) asked are you a ham operator. I spent some time talking to him, good guy been retired for 22-yrs. He just got his tech license. Wants a book to study for general ticket. Barns & Noble had nothing. Gave him some titles an sent him to Amazon.com.
Now I am am worried I look like a amateur radio guy, out of a store full of people he spotted me.. Not sure what that means but does not sound good. |

I get asked all the time...mainly because I have a dual band, and VHF antenna on my roof and a mobile rig sitting on top of the dash. Another time I get asked, walking around campus...maybe it's because of my backpack... http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg586/zap_uh_lack/E2C49110-6CDA-4AB4-BEA2-17A806CED64B-247-0000001F4D6EB025.jpg Did I mention I'm not even 21, 170 lb and have a full head of hair? Looks like snow What kind of pack is that? Looks like a chest rig strapped to it? That is a really good idea. |

I did get a laugh out of the angry birds and cocaine comments though. It's a Drago pack. Picked the radio pouch up off ebay, has a ITS Tactical skeletonized bottle holder. No chest rig...that would be kinda awkward explaining to campus PD...took that picture after a couple of big air warm ups up at Red River last week (just kidding about the big air, hit an ice patch I didn't see and my skis went out from under me). |

When I said chest rig, I should have specified a radio chest harness... Thats what I have that I use for RACES/ ARES stuff. It only holds a radio and a few other little odds and ends like pen/ note pad and a small utility pouch. I figured that would be handy to throw on the back of a pack for EDC then you have it if you need it. Or a radio pouch on a molle pack would work pretty good to. I wouldent mind seeing a few more pics of your setup... I like the looks of that pack. |
