Okay, I am as low on the totem pole as whale feces... Guy who I tested with has LONG since passed away.. I see NUMEROUS practice exams online but no listing for testing sites, or who can issue tests....... Would like to get above Techinican status.

That's pretty amazing! Just promoting the hobby so anyone can test, even if you can't come up with $15. Good for them!

The VE's shouldn't/aren't allowed to charge for testing. The fee of $15 goes to the FCC. I and the rest of us who tested with the Laurel VE Team paid not one cent to anyone for our tests or licenses. Since you were so successful, why don't you and your friends donate some money to them and show your support? |

You probably want to search on the South Texas ARRL Section. |

Not quite true.
The VE's shouldn't/aren't allowed to charge for testing. The fee of $15 goes to the FCC. ARRL VEC do have a charge of $15. Of that $7 can be retained by the local VE team for reimbursed expenses. The other $8 is sent to the ARRL VEC for administration costs. The FCC doesn't get a cent. If you don't think there should be a charge at all, think about this for a minute. I supply my time, gas, and money as a Volunteer Examiner to afford you a opportunity to test to hopefully achieve a license grant from the FCC. I do this to promote the hobby/service. No other reason. If you think $15 is unreasonable then letting the gummit run the show from your tax dollars is the other option. Personally and the rest of my team doesn't collect a cent in reimbursed expenses. We have VE sessions at the monthly club meetings where we're going to be at anyway. We don't go through enough pens and pencils to even bother keeping track of it. When we're down to a dozen we get a dozen more. The accountability of hanging onto the $7 isn't worth the bother so the team andI just pay whatever expenses there are out of our pockets. As for that team that charges nothing, hats off. That is certainly putting your money where your mouth is to help promote the hobby. |

Well none of links provided have anything within 200 miles of me... Can extra's still administer exams?? An extra ham who has since passed away administered my Technicans license.. No, only hams that are registered VE's can administer tests. It takes 3 VE's for a session. |

If a search with the ARRL comes up a bust, try this one. http://www.w5yi.org/exam_locations_ama.php?vec_state=TX. Then contact the closest two or three VEs and see what they can do for you.
W5YI is just another VEC authorized to administer FCC tests. They are #2 behind ARRL in number of VEs. |
