Well haven't been on the air much it is hunting season here. Yesterday I was just watching TV with the Rockmite I built on low in the background and caught a fairly strong CQ out of zero land. It turned out to be a guy I worked a few months back in Des Moines Iowa. I responded and he answered. He gave me a 339 I could tell he was struggling a bit but I appreciated the effort. 798.7 miles on half a watt into my ZS6BKW with my tuner. I really want to make a legitimate 1000 mile plus QSO one of these days. Anyone 1000 miles from Western NY willing to give it a shot sometime?
I wish there was a Web SDR radio on 30 Meters somewhere in the US. http://www.websdr.org/. It is nice to be able to check your propagation by listening for yourself. That is what I do with my Pixie 2 on 40 meters. Check and see if I can here myself in RI, NJ and GA. Usually RI and NJ are a given. |

So if an old ham were to get into CW QRP what would be the best
frequency to order the xtal for my bast chance of actually talking to someone? My vote would be 7114 KHz, the SKCC "elmer frequency". |

It's one of those things I would like to be better at (much better). Do you already have an HF transceiver? I wouldn't recommend starting out with a QRPp rig. ![]() I have been out of ham radio fro a number of years and just now getting back into it. I sold all my HF gear years ago, so at this Point I am without an HF rig. I'm considering building up a little QRP for the fun of it |
