I have MixW 2.20 and have downloaded and unzipped the Oliva package ...for whatever reason I can't get it installed into the MixW program?

Can anybody give me a step by step tutorial to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance..

Sorry. I use HRD/DM780. Is there some error message?

At the risk of not really answering your question, I'd recommend abandoning MixW and using Fldigi. Fldigi is free, easy to use and undergoes regular updates.

I downloaded the 'ModeOlivia3.zip' file, unzipped it into a new file and pasted the 'ModeOlivia.dll' file into the MixW directory.

Works dandy.

You may want to start from the 'get go' with a new install of everything, deleting MixW and all it's files, then reinstalling it all.

I was going to say the same thing but didn't want to. Since it's already been said, though...

I think MixW is a product of the developer dropping something on his keyboard resulting in every conceivable GUI control accidentally being dragged/dropped onto his form designer. I honestly don't think it's conceivable to fit a single other thing on the screen. It's got to be one of the most ill-conceived user interfaces I've ever seen.

Personally I'd choose DM-780 long before I opted for fldigi. It's 1000x better. I only use fldigi because I run Linux and HRD/DM-780 don't play well under WINE. Fldigi is simple and gets the job done but leaves a lot to be desired.

Fldigi installed, thanks, nice program.

I will keep MixW just for HF/VHF packet.

You might be thinking of MultiPSK where that FrankenGUI from Hell is concerned. It's really too bad, because MultiPSK is the only way to run ALE400, a very interesting mode, but I just can't get past that mess of an interface. It also costs money, not that the authors shouldn't get paid, but just sayin'...

Why do you think DM780 is 1000x better? Not looking for pissing contest, just honestly interested. I have both programs because DM780 came with HRD. However I have set up Fldigi and HRD to interoperate because I find the simpler interface of Fldigi to be far more compelling. I will say, however, that certain modems in DM780 do work better than Fldigi and vice versa, but it's not significant enough in either case to get me to change, although if you need MT63 Fldigi is a hands down winner, and if you need MTTY (another very interesting mode) you've got to go with DM780 (another reason I have both).

ARFCOM.....get both or in this case all.

I like FLDIGI for MARS use and when running Linux.  I have been a longtime HRD user and like DM780 for ham use. I never cared for Mixw, but it I could learn to like it more if I didn't have to pay for it. I think there is a 15 day shareware evaluation time limit. I need a bit more time than that to get a feel for it.

Oh dear. I'm afraid you're right. My bad. Please redirect my comments towards MultiPSK instead.

Bear in mind that it's been several years since I was last able to use DM-780 but what sticks out in my mind is that the Super Browser was significantly better in form and function than fldigi's rudimentary PSK Browser. Logging is also considerably better. DX spotting seems to be more polished in DM-780. Basically everything seems to be more polished. fldigi is functional. It's just not as usable imho. I'm sure there are reasons as you've stated to use multiple apps based on your needs. I just wish I had the ability to use DM-780. I miss it for HF.

DM780 is a bit more polished, true, but it's also a bit more "busy" and certainly more complex. I agree, the Super Browser implementation is better in DM780. But I rarely use it. I actually like the logging better in Fldigi. I'm not a big "logger". All I need is something that will capture the data and dump it into eQSL. The latest version of Fldigi is eQSL capable and that's good enough for me. The web lookups on DM780 are better but I find that to be "cheating" , so I'm happy they are not as good in Fldigi!
