Anybody know of a website or EME Wiki I can go to for a crash course on equipment set up and antennas for effective EME coms ??? Man, it will take a bunch of effort. The path losses are huge on EME, if I can remember correctly like 300db path losses. You need a large Yagi an a lot of power. Best thing to do is to Google 2 meter EME. I may attempt it, but I will likely not have enough station, 180w into a 4 element yagi. But hell during the contests there will be some huge stations on, so anything is possible. http://www.pingjockey.net/cgi-bin/pingtalk Hit the pingjockey web chat where a bunch of the EME guys schedule QSO's and ask for assistance, they will likley be happy to help. Tracking program
Elevation control not necessary but makes for more use of the moon cycle. Mast mounted preamps. Get familiar with VHF/UHF digital modes and contact exchanges. Listen for your own echo Check out M2 Inc for antennas and SSB Electronics for preamps. If 100 watts or less no sequencer needed for preamp and amp switching. Single large antennas will work to start with. No need for stacked array till you get addicted. Start with 6 and 2 meters, too much loss for a beginner in the higher bands. I know there is more I am forgetting but you have plenty of time to prep for contest. If you do participate might be worth me taking trip down south to check it out. Its only 4 or 5 hours drive for me. This is going to be my main interest once we move to the farm and setup the antenna farm. Btw haven't forgot promised pics been focused on more pressing matters. |
