My first box was an old technician case, and had a ton of extra space (wasted)
I yearned for something smaller... Here is where I landed. 
Specs: MTM Caseguard, Large ammo can (AC11) Yaesu FT-857D Radio Shack 25amp Power supply Signalink USB Antenna (same yo-yo retractable as above) in another box with cables, laptop, etc... AC Plug (salvaged from dead PC power supply) Plastic control panel (scrap from local habitat for humanity Re-store) Radio and Powersupply mounting boards = Red Plastic cutting board *No holes drilled in water "resistant" box Added a plastic panel with all the connectors and a DPDT switch for the battery/Power supply selection.

Thanks, Yes, I have two cables made up, one that has a cigarette plug, and the other has alligator clamps, both are terminated in anderson power pole connectors. Inside the box the battery, radio, and power supply all connect to the 3-way switch via anderson power poles as well, so an easy swap to exterior power source (car battery, etc...) I was going to look at getting an anderson power pole "receptacle" and mount that in the front panel tied into the battery side, so I wouldn't have to unplug anything to swap sources of external power. probably add another 3 way switch to select internal battery, external battery, or CHARGE (my battery tender has an anderson plug on it too) |
