Who's going?
I'm arriving Thursday evening and I look forward to meeting some other arfcommers! |

I'm not going to lie, but I'm a little surprised by the weak turnout here... I do good to get to the most Local of Ham fest in May-a pitiful little one day gig, but with a Huge Young Family and a Diesel 3/4 ton Truck....it's the best I can do Y'all have fun on my behalf.... |

I've been thinking about it.... I've got enough air miles that the airfare is covered... have never been... is this really worth the trip??? In a word...yes. If you've never been there you should go at least once. I haven't been there since 93 or 94 IIRC. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f110/vassili67/DSCN2824.jpg I have some Icom mints around here somewhere.
No fluorescent pink Yaesu hat? Those were 93 or 94 I think. |

I'm not going to lie, but I'm a little surprised by the weak turnout here... It's the same weekend as the VA camp out at the Cove. Not sure which one I'm going to yet. This is true, and I very much want to do both, however I had already made my commitment to go to Dayton before they picked a final date. I still them Memorial day weekend would have been better I guess I'm just disappointed because it seemed like there were a good number of arfcommers that went last year. Maybe that's why there aren't as many this year? |

Quoted:
is it legal to CC at Dayton? IIRC there are "no weapons" signs on the arena building. They passed a law in Ohio to allow carry in places that serve alcohol (which the arena does) but ccw prohibited signs do have the force of law in Ohio, and unless they've taken them down since last year, there are signs. |

gotcha, concealed means conceald. You could probably walk around with an AR15 in a box marked "ANTENNA" and no one would be the wiser. Not that I'm recommending it. The typical Hamvention attendee has a lot of ham paraphernalia. Look at the law and the penalties, and make your choice. |
|
I've never been. I was more than half-way interested to go this year, because Yaesu is going to be showing off their new digital rigs to compete with D-Star. I guess it is going to be like a MOTOTRBO type of system. However, I can't go. It's NATO Summit weekend and that is all I can say about that......OPSEC Mike F

Planning to be there this year. Doing an alternate routing to avoid the entire security zone (even "a you will be shot down if in our airspace" is being imposed) as a backup. An extra hour of driving could save several stuck in "Camp NATO in Windy City" - sepcially if they go to any security action levels.

is anyone interested at an arfcom get together? we should plan now before the events fill in. I know my only evening commitment right now is the DX Dinner. I think it would be fun for us all to try and meet up even if its just for a beer or two at a bar. Absolutely... |

The barbecue rib place in Tipp City we went to last year was good. http://www.hickoryriver.com/tipp-city-blog/ |

They've been leading up to it all this week. I have no idea what it is, but if the hints have substance it should be groundbreaking. Game changer ahead Imagine complex things made simple Imagine signal processing limited only by your dreams Imagine digital starting at the antenna connector and a bit of arithmetic Imagine dynamic range so high that you just might need new test equipment to find out |

You know, I was born in Dayton and lived there until I joined the Army in 1982. Never got to Hamfest. I was also an employee for Antenna Specialist/Allen Telecom Group in the 1990's in Reno, NV for 6/7 years as a technician in the R&D Labs. And I actually enjoy two-way but never got my ticket. I did have an actual CB license in the 1970's and a GMRS some time ago. Enjoy guys, I don't miss Dayton all that much. |
