I have limited space in my back yard and have a G5RV up at about 15 ft at the center in an inverted V with the wire at about 95-100 degrees,  it works ok for 40 meters and sometimes 80 at night. How much would it help to get the center up to 30-40' so I can get the wire to 180* ? I can seldom pick up 20 meters and when I do it is very noisy. I was looking at the 50' telescoping fiberglass mast kit Here . I know the G5RV isn't the best and would like to hear opinions on a better wire antenna as well. Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks

You are going to find with the antenna higher you will get better performance on the lower bands. Normally the atmospheric static should be higher the lower you go on the bands, if you are experiencing high noise on 20 meter I would look for local sources of noise.

The G5RV will work, but there are some better options.

Get the center up higher, 20'-30', and the ends at least 10' up and you'll do much better.

I thought the static on 20 was odd, but that's pretty much all I get. listening in on 80 meters right now and it's fairly quiet. 40 is hands down the quietest regardless of time of day. I buried an 8' grounding rod 5' from my radio/tuner/PS and grounded everything to a buss bar then out to the rod with "6 solid copper wire. Nothing else running in the house besides this PC.

Can't get the ends up higher than my fence which is 6' without the neighbors and city bitching.  Alternate plan is a 43' vertical I would rather not shell out the $ for . Do you think that telescoping mast is a good way to go?

ETA: Also, does the angle of the wire matter that much? I know it's supposed to be 180* but I just don't have the horizontal real estate without getting the center up.

The ends can angle down.  Mine do, but are about  8'-10' up.  The middle is 20'.

Black wire, black paracord to tie off the ends, it is not invisible, but it is just not seen.

And what do the neighbors and city have to do with it?  Tell the little bitches to STFU.  Your yard, you aren't hurting anyone.

Don't care about the neighbors, The city will (would have) fine me if there is anything higher than the "approved" fence line of 6'. Although I heard a bit ago via the local club on 2 meter that I can pretty much tell them to kiss my ass because of recently RECOGNIZED FCC regulations that say I can do what I want ( to a point)

ETA: to expand, I can go up 40' without a permit, 200' with a permit. Wire antennas are only prohibited if I interfere with Public safety or obstruct a right of way
.
