| I thinking about a small home base or a hand held unit. What would happen if I never got the licence or permit |

There are important issues that are only learned with use and practice... When you need to avail yourself to comm options, u need to have a functional understanding of how those options work... Or not...
Getting your ticket, which allows you to learn these necessary issues really is simple... Just do it! So simple, not getting the ticket isn't a reasonable option.. |

Learning to use the radio effectively without a license would be a lot more work than just getting the license.
I knew going into it that if I ever really needed a radio for more than just a hobby that a license wouldn't matter. But getting to where I can actually get any use out of a radio in adverse conditions would have been damn near impossible without any experience. If it's not the hassle of getting licensed that you're talking about, and you're more concerned with being on some government list somewhere because you have a ham license, you're probably on the list anyway. |

I thinking about a small home base or a hand held unit. What would happen if I never got the licence or permit For receiving? No problem. For transmitting? About a $10,000 fine. After just about everybody that busted their ass staying legal and getting a license ratted you out. Hams do not want to see ham radio turn into CB and they will rat a person out in a heartbeat. |

THIS^^^ Just do it. My wife got hers. She is not a dummy be any stretch of the imagination, but she has NO electronics background, other than learning from me through osmosis. She did better than I did on the tech. Hope to hear you on the air-LEGALLY! |
