I'm using HRD with a Kenwood TS-2000. When I fire up HRD it connects with the rig, then turns it on. When it's time to get a life ... er ... go QRT then it's click disconnect from the menu. The connections shuts down and a dialog pops up whether I want to shut the rig down. Click yes and it's done.
For you guys that are using come type of computer rig control, are you able to turn the radio on/off via the software? YMMV depending on rig configuration and software used. |

For Icom 7200, 7000, 706MKII, Yaesu 897 and 817, no from personal experience, at least with my software.
I'm pretty sure you could set this up relatively easy using a powerpole power strip that has a "master" control port if you've got a free serial port or serial USB cable with a little bit of rigging. My station is solar powered so I just leave the rig on if it's a low power unit. |

How could you control an IC7000 over a LAN? So you could locate it in a 'quiet' area away from the operation area where there are noisey inverters, etc. I have a small notebook that is dedicated to the radios, and then use ssh (but any remote control software, like VNC, for example, would work) to access it from another machine. This works for digital modes. I know there is remote voice rig software out there that does the same, but I've never done that. |

Thanks everyone. I'm glad to hear that the TS-2000 will do it, thats one down. I imagine the TS-570 will too or at least I hope it will.
I have been playing with some "wake on lan" settings and I think that if I get everything worked out with that I could use a VNC combined with this little guy to VNC/SSH/remote whatever into my home and fire up my whole station all over the interwebz. Now I don't think that strip will power my 75amp p/s but it could easily trigger a relay that could :) |
