Anyone have any interesting digital transmissions I can tune into? I am just interested in honing my skills. I found a website with a lot of RTTY stuff that had weather forecast, .mil type stuff, aviation and shipping stuff. Just wondering what is out that that I can tune into beside a rag chew session. I have a signalink with my 897 in case anyone is curious.

digital is about all I use.

I try to make it a point of rotating through some of the more obscure modes.

if you're just looking to receive, there is always weather fax. Download SeaTTY, set up, tune to nearest freq. http://www.weather.gov/om/marine/radiofax.htm

I just got my digital station running yesterday, there should be plenty of PSK at 14.070 for you to listen to/read

Ya I'm not interested in qso's. I was looking to copy information bulletins. I'll try seaTTY!

Wefax as mentioned is interesting. Most wefax stations will transmit a series of maps followed by RTTY text forcasts and synopsis info. Hunt around and you will find a station that transmits maps over your AO. SSTV is fun to copy also. Alot of activity on 14.230 usually.

I'll check that out tonight. I think I'm close enough to the Point Reyes site to receive without an antenna

That's who I hear well...and they send maps that include my AO.

More PSK31 on 7.070 mhz (tend to be USA/Canada) and 7.035 mhz (tend to be European).

But dial around in the lower portion of each band and listen for weird noises.

10.140 usually has activity all hours of the day. tune higher or lower if you are looking for something other than PSK31.

The one I've always received well is Boston (12.7481, USB), and I'm in WI.

So the signal was 20 over S9 but the faxes still look like crap. What can I do to fix that?

I worked on faxes for a living, you need to clean your print head if this is from a thermal fax

Looks like you need to clean up the signal a little more

maybe you were just off freq a bit, or just noise?

Noise most likely. Signal will be strong, but there can still be plrenty of noise.
