I will likely be getting something like a Yaesu ft60r as my first radio. Is there an easy way to record through these HT's - probably through the earphone socket I guess.
And what is the etiquette, is it expected that you announce, or is recording commonplace so you don't need to bother announcing? |

Yes you can record from the speaker out jack, but you need to be able to experiment a little. Some HT's use two jacks (one for speaker, one for mic) and some use a 4-prong single jack for both.
If your HT has two jacks, then it's a simple splitter to go to the recorder and to the external speaker. If your HT has a 4-prong single jack, you need to buy a cable, cut it, and experiment to see which wires work the mic and which you can tap to record from. Regardless, my .02 is that if you are going to use an HT in your Jeep, use a mic and a external speaker. |

My IC-7000 has a record function.....I've never used it. If I was receiving a distress call, like say an SOS from a ship, and they were giving Lat/Long data....I'd record it. I hear ya on the call-signs though. "Sunshine Apple Five Radio Sugar Tabulator" is kinda hard to decipher compared to Sierra Alpha 5 Romeo Sierra Tango". I avoid talking to people who use 'creative' phonetics..... I also don't contest, so I don't use the function to record my 'contest ID call'. |

I noticed that the ERPN net is now recorded and posted online. Not quite sure why.....
