So, my 40m NVIS dipole was wind damaged earlier in the week.
I'm thinking of now going with either an 80m NVIS dipole and will have to bend the ends a bit to fit the lot, or a 40m loop run around the eaves. Already have a 4:1 balun in stock, however it is a whole lot more work to install the loop. Antenna doesn't really have to be "stealth", but I'm on a semi stealth kick. Of these 2 choices, what do you think? |

I'd go with the 80m NVIS. Reason being that with a tuner you'll be able to use it on 40m as well. Also with the proper di-pole i.e. cut to the right length and "tuned" before you install you'll need a 1:1 balun not a 4:1. The emphasis is on properly cut and tuned. Have made and used many di-pole and the only reason I use a balun at all is to go from the dipole to the radio with coax instead of ladder line and it's a convient way to hang the dipole.

An 80m dipole on 40m would be a half wave on each side of the feedpoint, and that's a really bad configuration. You could do a fan dipole with elements for 80 and 40, or use a 40 dipole with a tuner for 80. |
