My wife and son took their first day of a two day technician ham class yesterday. My son is 10 and very interested in getting his ticket my wife I resorted to bribery to go but I think was woth it.

Anyway yesterday while they are in class I get a text from my wife saying we should plan on putting a mobile in her car with some tax money and get a pair of hand helds for camping and stuff. This from the person who's mantra has been :"Hell No" whenever I mentioned the possibility of putting a radio in her car in the past.

Both of them are enjoying the class and they go back next Saturday for the final part and to take the exam so should be getting their tickets shortly. Wife has already mentioned wanting to try field day this year.

Enjoy it.....While it lasts!

My wife got her ticket years ago, she even talked on one of the local repeaters a little. Now, I don't think she even remembers what her callsign is.

She's officially a General and doesn't even know it yet.

Good work on getting the SO interested in something. I have been trying to get my wife interested in building AR's with me, but all I get is the standard "HELL NO!!!!"

Let us know what they said to convince her. I have a buddy that has the same issue.

My wife and I got licensed at the same time as techs––and have upgraded together since. It's a great thing to share together!

She said it was when they were discussing emergency operations such as Katrina, major floods, and the WTC and how when everything else failed the radio worked.

Of course I'd told her this before and it rolled off like water on a ducks back. I guess someone else saying it got through though.

One of the constants in the universe that even Stephen Hawking can agree with.

"Wives don't listen to husbands and vice versa."

Cool that she finally 'gets it'. Alas my wife won't get her license. Won't spend the time operating to be proficient at it. When I took my Tech test we were all standing around in the lobby waiting for our results. Just to break the silence I asked the group of 10 or so, "Why do you want to get into ham radio?" One senior statesman wanted a hobby in retirement. Another wanted to chase DX. The rest said emcomm for when the next hurricane blows through.

(Dani Here Travis Wife)

Just want to clear up the confusion my husband never said to use for Hurricanes he wanted me to get it for getting lost at Disney world and storm chasing>>>which the 1st was an AWESOME idea and the second umm they say bad weather i{m in the basement with our animals. When they talked about Hurricane Katrina and when Omaha lost phone service for two weeks and hams were stationed every few blocks for people to use to call for help I realized that perhaps I had been hasting in my Hell No beliefs as well as when it was mentioned that when cell phones don't work hams do< and the final point I realized ham was for me was when i realized I could get back to do the volunteer work with my husband that I so enjoy and haven't done in the last few years.

However this don't mean that i will joy hubby and son on getting on the radio for hours and just chatting but that i will use it as a tool for the above listed reasons.

PS The Disney Pins were SO WORTH IT!!!
