I have a few radios, of course they're all different models that I want to program....any suggestions on software? For my VX-6R I bought the Yaesu software, but I'm not sure that I see all the value, it's a bit pricey for the software and the cable.

The radios I need to program are a FT-90 and FT-7900R. Of course they have different connections, etc, so I just need to find cables and software, but I don't know everything that's out there.

There are the Yaesu options, I also found http://www.g4hfq.co.uk/ftb7900.htm for the 7900. is there a single software package that would program most Yaesu radios, then I could just buy different cables?

get your cables off ebay. they are by far the best deal. stand by for a PM.

scratch that. hamcity has it the cheapest i can find: FT-7900

they dont seem to have it for the FT-90 though.

I prefer G4HFQ over RT Systems. As for the value in programming software, it's a huge timesaver if you have a lot of frequencies to enter/maintain. I create files based on what I'm doing. Typically I have the main file loaded which gives me all local freqs as well as surrounding areas. If I'm traveling I have files that cover the entire length of I-95, I-10 to TX, and up I-75 to GA/TN. You can also share your files with new hams to give them a jumpstart by programming their radio for them.

I definitely understand the value piece, I guess I worded it wrong......my problem is that every radio needs different software and different cables. I guess they've never heard of standardization. It's very annoying and costly.

Ah, I feel your pain. I was happy to see that Chirp is trying to do this for Icom radios. Now if only someone would do this for Yaesu.

Yep. Great luck with it.
