Seems to be the season I got 48/50 yesterday and have made a few contacts since then on my newly earned bandwidth. Really enjoying DX work...its fun to take a small pile of electronics and with some basic connections (and some help from the atmosphere) be able to strike up a conversation with someone 5,000 miles away! Very cool. |
What is really funny is that for the past few days, almost all my time has been spent on 2m
I made a couple of contacts in the extra portions of the 20m and 40m bands, then figured out that we are getting some really cool ducting on 2m at night so I have been playing with that. From south east PA I was hitting Connecticut on 2m last night! Very cool stuff |

I bet you didn't get the memo.....
If not, you are an Extra-light. http://randygeorgewoodworking.com/online_store/images/nocode.png Hahaha.... love it! Yeah, I told a guy, I'm a new ham... and he replied, but you have an extra call sign. I said, yes, I'm one of those "no code Extras". He came right back, "No, you're just an Extra. You passed all the FCC requirements to be an Extra. Welcome to ham radio!" You know, there's a gazillion modes out there, and CW is just one. The US was one of the last (or the last?) country to drop the code requirement. I'm working on learning code, but meanwhile, I'm having fun on 75 meters SSB phone on the nets in the evening. And PSK31, Feld Hell, Throb, and some other modes, too. I've really had a blast learning how to rig up for the digital modes, and in particular using PSK31. I think there is something for everyone in Amateur Radio. |
I really like DX also..
